After 20 years as a jewellery valuer in Switzerland a stone's throw from Burgundy and the Rhône Valley, Michael Hall made the leap to wine. He spent his formative winemaking years at leading Australian and French wineries before launching his own brand in 2008.
Michael Hall operates out of an 1860s heritage barn at Langmeil. He likens tasting nuances of quality wine to the process of evaluating the purity of gems. With unique characters stemming from vineyard and region, Michael Hill draws from sites in the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. Rather than moulding the fruit to a style, the emphasis is on crafting wine with minimal inputs, allowing the site and season to show themselves.
Michael Hall's leading wines are Barossa Valley Shiraz, Eden Valley Syrah and Eden Valley Chardonnay. His Sang de Pigeon label is an accessible introduction to regional styles.
